This tour departs from Mid-Wales Airport, Welshpool, Powys, SY21 8SG
As you ascend into the sky, the first thing that you will see is the impressive medieval Powis Castle, built in the 13th Century by a Welsh prince – the property is known for its magnificent formal gardens and surrounding estate. The castle has been under the care of the National Trust since 1952. After viewing the castle, you will track over the village of Meifod, where the churchyard is thought to contain some of the Kings and Princes of Powys.
Flying on, in the distance you will spot the popular walking peak Cadar Idris Mountain in Gwynedd.
On a good day if you look a little north, you may see the summits of Snowdon. Following on you will then head towards the tranquility of the mountain-sealed Lake Vyrnwy valley, one of Wales hidden gems! Situated on the edge of The Snowdonia National Park, Lake Vyrnwy is positioned amongst the remote and stunning Berwyn Mountains.
Upon reaching Lake Vyrnwy (the source of water for Bombay Sapphire Gin!) you will first admire the stone built dam, constructed in the 1880s, it was the first of its kind in the world! It was built to supply Liverpool and Merseyside with fresh drinking water. When full the reservoir is 26 meters deep with 331 rivers and waterfalls running into it.
From there you will carry on over the tree covered peaks to the 73 meter waterfall of Pistyll Rhaeadre, before returning over the beautiful Berwyn Mountains which are heavily vegetated by heather – spectacular when in bloom – and then down the Severn Valley back to Welshpool.
One of the most outstanding and impressive flights you could possible wish for.
