This helicopter tour is available from The Courtyard, near Settle as a 15 minute flight to cover the stunning Nidderdale Valley and surround areas.
The helicopter will usually fly at an altitude of around 1500 feet, offering unrivalled vistas of some of the best scenery within the Yorkshire Dales.
As you ascend into the air, the helicopter will follow the River Dibb up out of Burnsall and track over to Grimwith Reservoir, described as one of the Yorkshire Dales hidden gems – it is the largest expanse of inland water in Yorkshire. Appletreewick Moor is then flown over before you route round to Gouthwaite Reservoir, a compensation reservoir to maintain the flow of the river in periods of dry weather. From here you will track up the Nidderdale Valley following the River Nidd passing the small villages of Ramsgill, Lofthouse and Middlesmoor. Still following the river you will approach Scar House Reservoir seeing the impressive 71m high dam wall with its towers, Angram Reservoir will then be stumbled upon, both reservoirs constructed to provide water to Bradford via the Nidd Aqueduct. You will then route back past the eastern side of Great Whernside, the highest point above Kettlewell, continuing over Grassington Moor with return back into Settle.
